about

After we did "She Looked Back", I wanted to do another track in collaboration with Adam Holzman. "Miles to Go" is jazz fusion with some edm influences mixed in. The title can refer either to the state of the world, or to Miles Davis, the consensus godfather of electric jazz and fusion. The period from Bitches Brew through the 70's featured a lot of music that sounded to me at the time like a kind of mysterious, spacey jazz funk (Miles, Herbie Hancock, Eddie Henderson, Alphonso Johnson, Bennie Maupin, and many, many more amazing artists). At the time I couldn’t write or play anything like that, but I always wanted to do my own tribute to the sound. I don’t claim to be in the same league as those artists whose music I enjoyed so much, so consider "Miles to Go" as an impressionistic take.

As with "She Looked Back”, it began as riffs and sketches, and then an informal chart, which I worked on until I was mostly satisfied. I recorded my basic parts, and gave it to Adam to work on. He did his magic(!), I rewrote/rerecorded a few parts to fit better with his, and then did the mix.

MW Gilbert: percussion programming, percussion, synthesizer, bass samples, guitar samples, stuff :)

IMHO it sounds best turned up!
